Put simply, electronic sports (esports) are competitive video gaming. Like traditional sports, esports fosters critical and strategic thinking, communication skills, creativity, sportsmanship, and leadership.
In 2020, more than $16 million in esports scholarships were awarded by the 200+ U.S. colleges with established programs. These programs continue to experience significant growth because of the increasing popularity of esports and their ability to attract and retain students.
The National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE) is one of the leading organizations supporting these programs, with over 175 member schools. These institutions offer a variety of opportunities for students to participate in competitive gaming, often accompanied by scholarships and other incentives.
